Jersey City WIC launches new satellite clinic to provide seamless, one-stop care for families

The Jersey City Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program has announced the launch of a new satellite clinic, established in partnership with the Metropolitan Family Health Network (MFHN), to significantly expand access to critical nutrition and support services.

Beginning Oct. 2, the clinic will operate every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It is strategically located within the MFHN facility at 935 Garfield Avenue, bringing WIC services directly to patients at their existing healthcare location.

This integration is expected to create a seamless and highly convenient experience, particularly for expectant mothers. With MFHN providing on-site OB/GYN services, pregnant women will now be able to complete WIC applications and access benefits during their prenatal visits.

“The new clinic reflects Jersey City’s ongoing commitment to making equitable healthcare more accessible and supportive for every resident,” Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said. “It will connect families, especially new and expecting mothers, with the care and support they deserve to stay healthy.”

The collaboration is designed to remove significant barriers for families. “By working with Metropolitan Family Health Network, we are removing barriers such as transportation and multiple appointments, ensuring families can access the support they need in one trusted location,” Stacey Flanagan, director of Health and Human Services said.

The ability to access multiple essential services, including pediatricians, obstetricians, dietitians, and WIC benefits, under one roof will improve the overall patient experience.

“This partnership makes it possible to offer WIC services on-site, where families consult with our pediatricians, obstetricians, and dietitian,” Joan Dublin, president and CEO of MFHN said. “It augments assurance of healthier pregnancies, healthier children, and healthier families.”

This opening marks the first WIC satellite location launched since the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to serving established residents, the clinic will play a vital role in supporting residents who are new to the community and unfamiliar with available health and nutrition resources.

The WIC program, funded by the US Department of Agriculture, supports families by providing free healthy foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and essential health referrals.
