Iselin-based Middlesex Water Company on Friday announced it appointed Tatyana Kaplan as the company’s new vice president and chief accounting officer, effective immediately.
Kaplan joins the executive leadership team with a background in regulated utility accounting, a specialized field critical to managing the financial intricacies of water utility infrastructure and rate-setting.
The appointment comes as Middlesex Water continues to navigate a complex regulatory environment and significant capital investment cycles. Nadine Leslie, chair, president, and CEO of Middlesex Water, highlighted Kaplan’s specific expertise as a key asset for the company’s future.
“Tatyana brings a distinguished background in regulated utility accounting and a proven ability to navigate the unique financial complexities of our industry,” Leslie said. “Her deep expertise in rate case strategy and commitment to operational excellence will be instrumental as we continue to deliver value to our customers and shareholders.”
Kaplan’s career has been defined by leadership roles within major financial and utility organizations:
- Veolia North America: Most recently served as Director of Accounting for the regulated utility business, overseeing regulatory accounting and reporting across six different jurisdictions. She was also a primary architect of the firm’s accounting and finance transformation roadmap.
- Prudential Financial, Inc.: Served as Associate Manager responsible for external financial reporting.
- PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC): Began her career as a Senior Associate specializing in the power and utilities sector.
A Certified Public Accountant, Kaplan holds both a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Master of Science in Accounting from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
In a related move, Middlesex Water announced that Robert Capko has stepped down from the role of Principal Accounting Officer. Capko will remain a vital part of the company’s financial leadership, continuing his service as Corporate Controller.
Established in 1897, Middlesex Water Company serves as a major provider of water and wastewater services in New Jersey and Delaware, managing a sophisticated network of treatment plants and distribution systems.
