NJ Treasury releases 616-page book for Sherrill’s $60.7B FY2027 budget

Following Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s inaugural budget address earlier this month, State Treasurer Aaron Binder announced that the Detailed Budget Book for Fiscal Year 2027 is now available to the public. The comprehensive 616-page document provides the granular financial data supporting the administration’s proposed $60.7 billion spending plan.

The newly released volume serves as the State’s primary financial blueprint, detailing department-by-department appropriations, revenue forecasts, and specific legislative language intended to guide New Jersey through the next fiscal year.

The FY2027 proposal, which Treasurer Binder described as a “policy document and operations guide,” centers on three core pillars: affordability, children’s futures, and government transparency. Key highlights include:

  • Record Property Tax Relief: Continued funding for the ANCHOR and Senior Freeze programs, alongside the “Stay NJ” initiative, with total relief aimed at middle-class families and seniors.
  • Fiscal Stability: For the sixth consecutive year, the state plans to make a full actuarial payment into the public pension system.
  • Education Investment: A record-breaking $12.4 billion for K-12 formula aid, the highest in state history.
  • Energy Initiatives: New proposals aimed at lowering utility costs for residents through natural gas modernization and solar investments.

“The proposal outlines the Administration’s plan to fulfill its mandate of making New Jersey more affordable while improving government accountability,” the Treasurer’s office stated in the announcement.

While the more concise Budget-In-Brief has been available since the Governor’s address on March 10, this detailed book allows legislators, stakeholders, and the public to scrutinize the line-item spending that will be debated in the coming months.

The State Legislature now begins its review process, which includes public hearings and committee meetings, with a constitutional deadline of June 30 to pass a balanced budget for the governor’s signature.
