ShopRite announced the immediate launch of its annual Check-Out Hunger campaign, a holiday-season fundraiser designed to combat food insecurity in the communities it serves. The campaign invites customers to easily support local food banks by adding a donation at the checkout register. The fundraising effort is running now through the second week of the New Year.
The start of the Check-Out Hunger campaign closely follows the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s (CFBNJ) 25th Annual Turkey Drive, which received significant support from ShopRite. On Nov. 22, CFBNJ utilized ShopRite stores and other retailers across New Jersey as key donation drop-off locations.
CFBNJ President and CEO Elizabeth McCarthy personally visited the ShopRite of Livingston on Saturday to promote both the success of the Turkey Drive and the official launch of the Check-Out Hunger campaign. Shoppers donated frozen turkeys, holiday pantry staples, and monetary contributions to help CFBNJ provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need.
The annual campaign comes at a time when demand for food assistance is exceptionally high. The efforts build upon the $1.25 million in food and funds recently contributed by ShopRite Partners in Caring, the grocery chain’s signature hunger-fighting initiative, to help families affected by the federal government shutdown and ongoing uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits.
Alexandra Emery, manager of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility for ShopRite, highlighted the local commitment behind the drive.
“We’re deeply committed to addressing food insecurity because our stores are owned and operated by families who are part of the communities we serve,” Emery said. “Every donation made at checkout helps strengthen local food banks at a time when demand is especially high. Together with our customers, we can ensure more families have access to meals throughout the holiday season.”
ShopRite encourages all customers to join the effort by making a donation at checkout or participating in special in-store fundraising activities and food drives that will take place throughout the holiday season.
