Central New Jersey shoppers will soon welcome a new upscale retailer as Iowa-based Von Maur Department Stores announced plans to open its first New Jersey location at Macerich’s Freehold Raceway Mall in Fall 2027.
The 152-year-old family-owned retailer is known for its signature customer service, thoughtfully curated selection of apparel and gifts, and industry-leading amenities, including an interest-free charge card and complimentary gift wrapping and shipping.
The new anchor store, which will occupy approximately 164,000 square feet across three levels, will be located in the space formerly occupied by Nordstrom.
“We are thrilled to bring the Von Maur experience to Central New Jersey,” Jim von Maur, president and fourth-generation leader of Von Maur Department Stores, said. “Freehold Raceway Mall is the area’s premier shopping destination, and we look forward to joining its vibrant retail community. As we continue to expand across the country, this new location represents an exciting milestone for our company.”
The new Freehold location will employ approximately 150 full-time and part-time associates, offering competitive wages and comprehensive employee benefits.
The store’s interior will feature the company’s hallmark residential ambiance, plush furnishings, an open-floor plan, and live music played from a grand piano. Shoppers can expect top brands such as Dagne Dover, Marine Layer, Bobbi Brown, Peter Millar, TravisMathew, Marc Jacobs, and Free People.
Jack Hsieh, president and CEO of Macerich, highlighted the strategic importance of the new anchor tenant.
“Von Maur is a best-in-class anchor that serves as a catalyst for our Freehold center and underscores our commitment to bring elevated brands that complement our retail mix,” Hsieh said. “Von Maur’s addition reinforces Macerich’s Path Forward strategy to deliver new anchor tenants that have clearly demonstrated the ability to drive traffic and sales across a property.”
The new store, conveniently located at the intersection of Route 9 and Business Route 33, will be the company’s 40th department store location nationwide. The retailer, which has been recognized as America’s Best Department Store by Newsweek for four consecutive years, is simultaneously undergoing a multi-phased, $100 million renovation of its existing stores over the next five years.
