Comcast on Thursday announced the completion of its network expansion across Hopewell and Maurice River townships. The project successfully bridges the “last mile” gap, bringing high-speed, fiber-rich internet to the final 350 unserved homes and businesses in this corner of Cumberland County.
The expansion was fueled by a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in New Jersey, utilizing a combination of private investment and American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to connect remote farms and small businesses that had previously been sidelined by the digital divide.
For residents of these townships, the completion of this network represents more than just faster speeds; it signifies a fundamental shift in economic and educational opportunity.
“Every resident, farm and small business in our township now has a level playing field,” Hopewell Township Mayor Robin Freitag said. “This achievement is the result of more than a decade of determined effort… our partnership with Comcast allowed us to extend network access quickly and in a cost-effective way.”
Maurice River Township Mayor Ken Whildin echoed this sentiment, noting that the strategic use of ARP funds through a competitive RFP process was key to the project’s success. “This is about ensuring our families can work remotely, our students can learn online, and our small businesses can compete in the digital economy,” he said.
With the expansion complete, newly connected addresses now have access to the full Xfinity and Comcast Business product lines:
| Service | Feature Highlights |
| Xfinity Internet | Gig-speeds with 99.9% network reliability. |
| Xfinity Mobile | Competitive wireless plans utilizing the most reliable 5G network. |
| Xfinity X1 | An integrated platform for live TV, streaming, and sports. |
| Comcast Business | Advanced solutions including SD-WAN, cloud connectivity, and 5G mobile. |
To ensure the new network remains accessible to all, Comcast is promoting its Internet Essentials program in the region.
