New Jersey expands cannabis equity: Training academy now available fully in Spanish

In a significant move toward increasing economic equity within the state’s burgeoning cannabis industry, the New Jersey Business Action Center (NJBAC) has announced that its Cannabis Training Academy (CTA) curriculum is now fully available in Spanish.

The expansion includes all 10 levels of the no-cost technical assistance program, ensuring that Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs have equal access to the resources needed to launch and maintain a legal cannabis business. Spanish is the second-most spoken language in New Jersey, making this update a critical step for the Department of State.

The CTA provides an asynchronous, online learning experience that allows students to learn at their own pace. With over 60 courses, the program covers the full spectrum of the industry, including:

  • Cannabis Laws and Regulations: Navigating the legal landscape in New Jersey.

  • License Application Process: Step-by-step guidance for state and municipal approvals.

  • Site Control: Evaluating and securing real estate for cannabis establishments.

  • Financial Sourcing: Insights into funding, banking, and taxation.

  • General Operations: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and compliance.

“By translating all 60+ courses into Spanish, the CTA aims to make its no-cost program accessible to a wider audience,” the NJBAC stated. While the core curriculum is now bilingual, the center noted that certain pre-recorded webinars outside the 10-level core remain available only in English at this time.

One of the program’s most valuable features is the Official Certificate of Completion. Students who finish all 10 levels in Spanish will receive the same credential as English-speaking students. This certificate can be included in a New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) license application as formal proof of prior business training and experience.

Current and new students can switch their language preference through the following steps:

  1. Register or Login: Visit CTA.nj.gov to create an account (initial portal entry is in English).

  2. Update Settings: Navigate to the student profile settings.

  3. Choose Language: Select Spanish as the preferred language to convert the course materials, quizzes, and surveys.
