Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber President & CEO Hal English announces 2026 retirement

The Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce (PMRC) on Friday announced that Hal English, who has served as the organization’s president and CEO since January 2021, will retire this year.

English’s tenure was defined by his steady hand during one of the most volatile periods for local business in recent history. Assuming leadership in the heart of the global pandemic, he is credited with not only sustaining the organization but modernizing its infrastructure and expanding its reach.

Under English’s leadership, the PMRC underwent a digital and structural transformation. His five-year legacy includes several landmark achievements:

  • Digital modernization: Orchestrated the deployment of a new brand identity, a sophisticated CRM system, and an enhanced member portal.

  • Economic recovery: Successfully transitioned the Chamber back to high-impact in-person events following pandemic restrictions.

  • Youth empowerment: Launched New Jersey’s first Young Entrepreneur’s Academy, creating a pipeline for the state’s next generation of business owners.

“When Hal English assumed the role, we were still in the midst of a global pandemic,” Patrick Ryan, PMRC Board Chair said. “He deftly steered our organization through the crisis, and we emerged stronger because of his leadership. Today, the Chamber is thriving with an engaged Board, strong support from our sponsors, and a thriving membership.”

English intends to remain at the helm until June 2026 to ensure a seamless transition for the staff and the broader membership base.

“I am extraordinarily proud of the work we have achieved together,” English said. “Though I am looking forward to retirement, I know I will miss the people—the Board, the Staff, and the members who make our Chamber great.”

The Chamber’s Board of Directors is expected to announce the details of a formal search for English’s successor in the coming weeks. The search comes at a time of strength for the PMRC, which currently stands as one of the most active and influential regional chambers in the Mid-Atlantic.
