PSEG appoints former PG&E Chief Geisha Williams to board of directors

Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) recently announced the election of Geisha Williams to its board of directors, March 1. Williams, a veteran executive with over 35 years in the energy sector, famously served as the first and only Latina CEO of a Fortune 200 company during her tenure at PG&E Corporation.

The appointment comes as PSEG continues to refresh its leadership ranks, marking the fifth new independent director to join the board since April 2022.

While Williams is recognized globally for her strategic leadership, the appointment represents a local homecoming of sorts. Williams has roots in Union City a connection that PSEG chair, president, and CEO Ralph LaRossa highlighted as a key cultural asset.

“Geisha’s record of strategic leadership and operational expertise will be a tremendous asset to our board,” LaRossa said. “She understands the communities we serve and the people who call them home.”

Williams brings a wealth of experience in managing large-scale utility operations and complex grid modernizations:

  • PG&E corporation: Served as CEO and President (2017–2019), overseeing one of the largest combined electric and gas utilities in the U.S.

  • Florida Power and Light (FPL): Spent over two decades in various roles, culminating in her position as Vice President of Power Systems–Distribution.

  • Global governance: Currently serves on the Supervisory Board for Siemens Energy and boards for Artera Services, Osmose Utilities Services, and Meritage Homes.

Williams joins PSEG as the company pushes forward with its Powering Progress vision—a strategy aimed at a carbon-free economy and net-zero emissions by 2030. Her background in industrial engineering and high-level strategy is expected to bolster PSEG’s efforts to modernize New Jersey’s aging infrastructure while maintaining affordability for its 2.4 million electric and 1.9 million gas customers.

Williams holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Miami and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Her role at PSEG will include participation in the company’s non-management director compensation plans as the utility continues its 17-year streak on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.
