Seton Hall secures $8.4M state grant to modernize STEM, Law, and campus facilities

Seton Hall University is set to launch a sweeping transformation of its physical and digital infrastructure following the award of an $8.4 million New Jersey Higher Education Capital Facilities Grant. The funding, announced in early 2026, will drive critical upgrades across the South Orange campus and the School of Law, specifically targeting STEM research labs, student housing, and ADA accessibility.

The grant is part of a statewide $244.4 million investment distributed by the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) to 23 institutions. For Seton Hall, the windfall addresses long-standing deferred maintenance while positioning the university to compete in an increasingly tech-driven academic landscape.

The modernization efforts will focus on high-impact areas where infrastructure meets innovation. By updating aging mechanical systems and building controls, the university aims to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient environment.

Primary projects include:

  • McNulty Hall (STEM): Extensive overhauls of laboratory infrastructure to support cutting-edge scientific inquiry and faculty-led research.

  • School of Law: Modernizing the Law Library with a focus on ADA accessibility and digital infrastructure.

  • Student life: Renovations to on-campus residence halls, including updated climate control systems and safety enhancements.

  • Campus-wide efficiency: Installation of advanced building management controls to reduce the university’s carbon footprint.

The funding was secured through two primary state programs: the Capital Improvement Fund (CIF) and the Higher Education Facilities Trust Fund (HEFT). These programs require legislative approval and are designed to ensure New Jersey institutions can offer world-class facilities without placing the full financial burden on students.

“The funding from the state represents a significant investment in the University’s future,” Victoria Pivovarnick, associate vice president of Facilities and Business Affairs said. “These improvements will help ensure our campuses continue to shine and provide modern, high-quality spaces that enhance the academic experience.”
