Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is highlighting the expansive academic opportunities available at its North Hudson Campus (NHC), a full-service educational hub designed to provide students with a comprehensive collegiate experience under one roof.
Located in the heart of Union City at 4800 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, the NHC serves more than 2,200 students. The seven-story, 92,250-square-foot facility, which opened in 2011, is designed for accessibility and convenience, featuring a glass-enclosed pedestrian bridge that connects directly to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.
Academic flexibility and variety
The campus offers 19 distinct degree and certificate programs, allowing students to pursue paths ranging from Business Administration and Criminal Justice to Digital Art and Design, Health Science, and Early Childhood Education. To accommodate the diverse needs of its student body—many of whom balance work and family responsibilities—HCCC provides these programs through various learning modalities, including on-campus, online, remote, hybrid, and Immersive Telepresence Video.
“At Hudson County Community College, we recognize that student success begins with access,” Darryl Jones, HCCC vice president for academic affairs, said. “The various modalities enable students to earn a quality education while balancing the demands of family, employment, and other responsibilities.”
A complete campus experience
Beyond academics, the North Hudson Campus is equipped with a full suite of resources to support student life and well-being. Facilities include:
- Academic Support: Computer, language, and science labs, a library, and a media center.
- Creative Spaces: An art concourse, gallery, and studios.
- Student Services: Mental Health Counseling and Wellness programs, career and transfer fairs, a food pantry, and basic needs support.
- Recreational Areas: Outdoor courtyards and a rooftop terrace.
HCCC Interim President Dr. Lisa Dougherty emphasized that the college is dedicated to providing North Hudson students with the same robust support and social opportunities found at the main Journal Square Campus. “We have made certain that the students attending our North Hudson Campus enjoy a rich student life,” she said, noting the inclusion of various clubs, social groups, and community-improvement organizations.
Affordability and accessibility
With a commitment to remaining one of the most affordable colleges in New Jersey, HCCC provides significant financial support to its students, with up to 83% of full-time students receiving some form of financial assistance. Additionally, the HCCC Foundation awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships during the last year.
