PolyGone Systems raises $4M seed round for microplastic monitoring and removal

The Kearney Point company is also rolling out a water analysis service and is preparing to deploy PolyPod™ systems.

Kearney Point-based PolyGone Systems has raised a $4 million seed round led by FYRFLY Venture Partners, with participation from Tech Council Ventures, Interstate Fusion Ventures, Golden Seeds, and angels.

The Princeton University spinout, focused on microplastic monitoring and removal, also announced that the New Jersey Innovation Evergreen Fund matched $1.65 million of the raise.

PolyGone this week formally launched its microplastics analysis service, offering water testing for the public, private companies, and government utilities to support studies of exposure risks and compliance needs.

The company said that the funding allows it to build the infrastructure needed to monitor microplastics across industrial, municipal, and community settings while scaling an ecosystem of filtration technologies.

With its seed funding, PolyGone said it will produce and deploy its first commercial municipal PolyPod™ systems, designed to treat up to 10 million gallons of water per day for microplastic pollutants. It will also launch a new inline PolyCartridge™ filtration system for industrial water streams.

Founded in 2021, PolyGone develops patented filtration systems that remove 98% of toxic microplastics from water at a 90% lower cost than alternative methods.

In December, PolyGone Systems secured $1.25 million to revolutionize water treatment using patented filtration media.

In November, PolyGone Systems’ co-founders Nathaniel Banks and Yidian Liu received an Emerging Tech Award at the Edison Patent Awards ceremony for developing a groundbreaking microplastic filtration system that has removed more than 540 million microplastics from New Jersey’s waterways through a partnership with the Atlantic County Utilities Authority.
