RWJUH Rahway appoints Janowski as Chief Medical Officer to lead clinical strategy

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Rahway, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has officially named Dr. Kenneth Janowski as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Dr. Kenneth Janowski

In this critical executive role, Janowski will spearhead the hospital’s clinical operations and provide oversight for the medical staff. His appointment marks a strategic move by the hospital to further integrate clinical services and enhance its team-based care model, a cornerstone of the RWJBarnabas Health mission.

The appointment serves as a homecoming for Janowski, who earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed his internal medicine residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Janowski joins RWJUH Rahway from Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he served as interim CMO. His career is distinguished by a specialized focus on physician engagement, the peer review process, and the modernization of quality assurance protocols.

“Dr. Janowski brings a thoughtful and collaborative leadership style, with a strong focus on aligning clinical teams,” Eric Kleinert, chief administrative officer of RWJUH Rahway said. “His ability to bring physicians together around shared goals will be key as we continue to enhance patient-centered outcomes.”

Throughout his tenure at previous institutions—including Winchester Medical Center and Bon Secours—Janowski established a reputation for strengthening medical staff professionalism and clinical credentialing. At RWJUH Rahway, his core functions will involve:

  • Coordinating Clinical Services: Aligning various departments to ensure a seamless patient experience.

  • Quality Improvement: Leading initiatives to achieve top-tier patient outcomes.

  • Physician Leadership: Acting as a bridge between hospital administration and the frontline medical staff.

“Dr. Janowski is a proven physician leader whose approach to clinical integration aligns closely with our goals,” Dr. Andy Anderson, chief medical and quality officer for RWJBarnabas Health said. “His leadership will help ensure we continue delivering high-quality care while advancing our commitment to excellence.”

For over 100 years, RWJUH Rahway has served as a primary health care anchor for Union County. The facility offers a full continuum of care, including advanced surgical treatments, emergency services, and specialized wound care.

The addition of Janowski to the executive team reinforces the hospital’s commitment to “acute care and beyond,” ensuring that the 100-year-old institution remains at the cutting edge of medical administration and patient safety.

Janowski is an active member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the American Osteopathic Association.
