Officials from Hudson County Community College (HCCC) and Stockton University gathered at the Gabert Library in Jersey City to sign a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU). The agreement creates a formal “program-to-program” transfer pathway, allowing HCCC students to transition seamlessly from an Associate degree into Stockton’s specialized Bachelor’s program in cannabis management.
The global cannabis market is projected to exceed $73 billion by 2027, creating a massive demand for professionals skilled in cultivation, manufacturing, and retail operations. This new agreement specifically links:
- HCCC: Associate of Science (A.S.) in Business Administration (Cannabis Studies Option)
- Stockton University: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Hemp and Cannabis Business Management
By aligning these curriculums, the schools aim to eliminate credit loss and repetitive coursework, saving students both time and tuition money.
The expanded partnership offers more than just a credit transfer; it provides a comprehensive support system for aspiring cannabis entrepreneurs:
- Conditional Dual Admission: HCCC students are granted conditional admission to Stockton starting in their first year of study.
- Joint Advising: Academic advisors from both institutions will work together to guide students through their four-year journey.
- Specialized Programming: Students will have access to unique events and resources tailored to the evolving hemp and cannabis marketplace.
HCCC President Christopher Reber highlighted the efficiency of the new model. “This agreement saves students time and tuition costs by eliminating duplication and repetition of courses, so students can earn their degrees in a seamless and more timely manner,” he said.
Michael Palladino, Stockton University Provost, noted the university’s role as a pioneer in the field. “Stockton was the first college or university in New Jersey to offer an undergraduate degree in Cannabis Studies,” Palladino said. “Together, we are opening doors to meaningful career opportunities while meeting the workforce demands of this dynamic sector.”
The partnership brings together two highly decorated institutions. HCCC was recently recognized as a finalist in seven categories of the 2026 American Association of Community Colleges Awards of Excellence. Meanwhile, Stockton University continues to be ranked among the top public universities in the nation, offering over 160 programs across its main campus in the Pinelands and its coastal campus in Atlantic City.
