MikeWorldWide expands reputation strategy with acquisition of change management leader HudsonLake

MikeWorldWide (MWW), one of the nation’s top independent public relations firms, announced Wednesday the acquisition of HudsonLake, a premier strategic communications firm specializing in organizational change, employee experience, and workforce communications.

The acquisition marks a significant shift in MWW’s core offerings, integrating high-level workforce strategy into its reputation management model. HudsonLake will continue to operate under its existing brand as a MikeWorldWide company, bringing a specialized focus on managing corporate reputation from the “inside out.”

The move addresses a growing challenge for modern organizations, where internal employee dynamics and external brand perception are increasingly intertwined. While many firms treat workforce communications as a siloed function, the MWW-HudsonLake partnership aims to deliver a unified strategy that aligns what an organization tells the public with how it operates internally.

“The future of reputation is continuous, connected, and built from the inside out,” Michael Kempner, CEO and founder of MikeWorldWide said. “With the addition of HudsonLake, we’ve built a model designed for where reputation is going, not where it’s been.”

HudsonLake brings 25 years of experience advising global giants such as Toyota, 7-Eleven, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. The firm’s expertise is particularly deep in sectors where operational continuity is paramount, including:

  • Health care and Transportation: Navigating high-stakes labor and workforce relations.
  • Organizational Transformation: Managing leadership communications during mergers or pivots.
  • Talent Strategy: Strengthening employer branding and recruitment marketing.

Alongside the acquisition, MWW announced the relaunch and expansion of its DC Metro office. This expansion reinforces the firm’s capabilities at the intersection of policy, public affairs, and regulatory complexity—areas where HudsonLake’s workforce insights and MWW’s established public affairs expertise frequently overlap.

Cynthia Hudson, founder of HudsonLake, noted that joining MWW provides the scale and “next-gen tools” necessary to exceed client expectations in an era of rapid digital change. Don Smialowicz, CEO of HudsonLake, added that MWW’s advancements in AI, data analytics, and influencer engagement will provide “depth and precision” to their change management work.

This acquisition follows MWW’s recent purchase of Berk Communications, which bolstered the firm’s sports and lifestyle presence. By adding HudsonLake’s workforce pillar, MikeWorldWide—now approaching its 40th anniversary—solidifies its position as a fully integrated platform capable of managing every facet of the modern property life cycle and corporate lifecycle.
