Middlesex County officials have finalized an operational management agreement with The Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), selecting the national venue-management agency to oversee three premier sports, entertainment, and hospitality properties centered around the Middlesex College campus.
The partnership represents a significant step forward for the county’s broader Community, Innovation, Opportunity (CIO) Strategic Investment Plan—a long-term economic initiative designed to transform the regional landscape, bolster youth athletics, and expand workforce development opportunities across New Jersey. Under the terms of the agreement, Florida-based SFC will direct day-to-day operations, scheduling, community programming, and routine maintenance across the high-profile sites.
The management portfolio covers three primary venues financed through a combination of federal, state, and county funds. Constructed entirely with union labor, the newly developed regional destinations are opening with zero debt.
“Our new premier destination for sports and entertainment in Middlesex County needs an experienced partner who understands quality standards, guest experience, and diverse programming,” Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios said in a statement. “The Board of County Commissioners and I are pleased to enlist Sports Facilities Companies… to ensure we exceed the expectations of our residents and visitors.”
SFC Senior Vice President Jack Adams noted the far-reaching impact of the county’s infrastructure investments. “What’s come to life here is more than a venue,” Adams said. “It’s a destination where sports, entertainment, education, and community connect in a powerful way.”
The operational agreement divides management responsibilities across three distinct campus and community properties:
1. New Middlesex College Stadium
The cornerstone of the infrastructure expansion is a state-of-the-art, multi-use stadium featuring approximately 6,500 seats. Built to professional industry specifications, the dynamic field is engineered to host community, cultural, and entertainment events alongside multiple athletic disciplines. Notably, the stadium will serve as the official home field for the Rutgers University Baseball team starting in the 2027 season.
2. Thomas A. Edison Park
SFC will assume scheduling and programming authority for Thomas A. Edison Park, a landmark 180-acre regional recreation asset. The county’s revitalization efforts have dedicated 88 acres of the park to enhanced active recreation space.
3. Student Center Restaurant & Culinary Lab
The final component of the management package targets a full-service, high-end restaurant and bar situated inside the new Middlesex College Student Center. Operating independently of stadium events, the dining venue will serve faculty, students, and the wider public while offering rentable event space for private gatherings.
Strategically integrated into the county’s workforce development agenda, the restaurant will house a live culinary lab. The initiative gives hospitality and culinary arts students at Middlesex College direct access to an operational, real-world commercial kitchen for hands-on training, internships, and potential employment.
