The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has officially welcomed Christopher Lovasz as its president for the 2026/27 term. Lovasz, a managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP, succeeds John Szczomak, a member of the firm at Smolin, Lupin & Co., LLC.
Lovasz brings a long history of service to the NJCPA, having joined the organization in 1998. Over nearly three decades, his contributions have included serving on the Board of Trustees, sitting on the Student Programs and Scholarship Committee since 2009 (including a two-year tenure as chairperson), and serving as a past president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund. In his roles with the Scholarship Fund, Lovasz helped implement strategic changes, including adding new award categories. The fund provides three distinct types of scholarships targeting college-bound New Jersey high school seniors, as well as accounting sophomores and juniors. Lovasz’s dedication to the industry was previously recognized in 2022 when he received the NJCPA Ovation Award in the Impact category.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris as president,” Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA said. “We know he will do an outstanding job in connecting with our student members and inspiring the next generation of accounting professionals. His wit, energy and leadership will be well utilized at Society initiatives, events and programs.”
Lovasz’s professional career at Deloitte spans more than 30 years. He spent 24 years performing audit and attest work across a diverse range of sectors, including technology, retail, construction, and nonprofit organizations. In 2018, he transitioned his focus to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), where he currently services private equity clients.
A graduate of Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in accounting, Lovasz resides in Wall Township.
During his presidency, Lovasz intends to focus heavily on shifting perceptions of the accounting industry among students and young professionals. A core pillar of his platform will be highlighting career pathways that extend far beyond traditional tax work, while emphasizing the modern skillsets required for long-term professional efficacy.
According to Lovasz, modern accounting careers demand a strong baseline in critical thinking, presentation, writing, and interpersonal communication rather than just technical information mastery.
“It’s important to understand that accounting is not a destiny; it’s a journey,” Lovasz stated.
