William Paterson’s VP of enrollment selected for Millennium Leadership Initiative

George Kacenga, vice president for enrollment management at William Paterson University, has been named one of only 29 higher education leaders nationwide to be selected for the 2026 Millennium Leadership Initiative (MLI).

The prestigious program, sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), provides a yearlong intensive experience for senior administrators. Designed to prepare participants for future executive roles, the initiative offers advanced leadership development, mentorship, and extensive networking opportunities with higher education peers from across the country.

In his role at William Paterson, Kacenga oversees critical pillars of student success, including admissions, financial aid, registration services, international education, and retention initiatives. His selection for the MLI cohort highlights his contributions to the university’s mission of expanding access and fostering student achievement.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage with peers from institutions across the nation who are committed to shaping the future of higher education,” Kacenga said. “The experience will help inform and strengthen the work we are already doing at William Paterson to expand opportunity and improve student outcomes.”

Kacenga’s inclusion in the program also marks a notable institutional achievement for William Paterson University. This is the second time in four years that a university administrator has been selected for the MLI; Wartyna Davis, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, was previously chosen for the program in 2023.

Since its inception in 1999, the MLI has been instrumental in the professional growth of over 800 higher education leaders. To date, 174 program alumni have advanced to top executive positions, including college and university presidencies.

“MLI has long played a vital role in cultivating a dynamic community of higher education leaders who are prepared to meet the challenges facing our institutions and students,” Charles Welch, president and CEO of AASCU, said.

Reflecting on his vision for the university, Kacenga emphasized the institution’s commitment to student empowerment.

“William Paterson University is a true ‘Powerhouse of Progress.’ As an institution, we are committed to expanding opportunity, fostering belonging, and helping students build lives of purpose, stability, and impact,” Kacenga added. “Our students arrive with extraordinary potential, and our responsibility is to create the environment, support, and momentum that allow them to thrive and lead.”
