The Café at Journal Squared, operated by the New Jersey-based brand Almost Home, is expanding its neighborhood footprint with the launch of a new “After Hours” menu. The expansion introduces evening service to the lobby café, providing a social hub for residents, commuters, and locals three days a week.
The new menu, which is served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, offers a selection of beer and wine alongside an array of comfort food classics. Highlights include:
- Entrées: A Thai chili fried chicken sandwich and a “cowboy burger” topped with BBQ sauce, cheddar, bacon, and fried onions.
- Shareables: Four varieties of chicken wings and fully customizable loaded nachos and fries.
- Daytime Staples: While the café transitions to the evening menu at 4 p.m., its signature premium coffee and espresso drinks remain available until closing.
Located at 595 Pavonia Avenue, the café is a centerpiece of KRE Group’s development vision to transform Journal Square into a vibrant cultural and community destination.
“Ever since we opened The Café at Journal Squared last year, our goal was to eventually expand the menu and the operating hours,” Robert Doran, founder of Almost Home said. “KRE had the vision to build a beautiful, welcoming café right inside of its lobby, and we could immediately see that this was the perfect setting for a place to hang out in the evening as well.”
The café features seating for more than 50 guests, including comfortable sofas, bar seating, and unique rope swing chairs, designed to encourage social interaction.
For developer KRE, the café is a key component in creating a sense of place within the high-rise community.
“Our goal right from the beginning was to make the Journal Square lobby a place for community connection,” KRE President Jonathan Kushner said. “We are proud that Almost Home is helping us take that goal to the next level with the launch of its After Hours concept.”
The café joins a growing list of retailers at Journal Squared, including Food Story Natural Market, Cangiano’s Marketplace, and Whealth Kitchen, all contributing to the neighborhood’s evolving landscape.
The café is now open seven days a week with the following schedule:
- Thursday – Saturday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (After Hours menu begins at 4 p.m.)
- Sunday – Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
