NJBankers to host food truck event in Trenton to combat food insecurity

The New Jersey Bankers Association (NJBankers) is taking a creative approach to fighting hunger in the Garden State. On June 25, the association will host Red’s Rolling Restaurant outside the State House Annex on West State Street from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., pledging to match all sales to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ).

This event is the latest effort under the “Bankers Care” program, an NJBankers initiative dedicated to highlighting the industry’s commitment to community welfare. Whether through volunteerism, charitable donations, or financial literacy education, the program emphasizes the role banks play in supporting the health and stability of New Jersey neighborhoods.

“Like our member banks, we support New Jersey residents all year long and want to strengthen supports for children and families across the state,” Brittany Wheeler, NJBankers vice president and director of Government Affairs, said. “No child or individual should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. That’s why buying lunch at the food truck on June 25 is a win-win.”

The collaboration comes at a critical time. According to the CFBNJ, nearly 1.1 million New Jersey residents face food insecurity, including more than 270,000 children who may struggle to access nutritious meals during the summer months when school is out.

Elizabeth McCarthy, president & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, emphasized the impact of these donations: “Every $1 helps us provide three meals to kids and families in need across the state.”

This event builds on a longstanding relationship between NJBankers and the food bank. Last year, the association successfully concluded its “One Million Meals Campaign,” a multi-year effort that raised nearly $340,000 and saw NJBankers members contribute over 11,200 hours of community service to the organization.

Megan Hilbert, owner of Red’s Rolling Restaurant, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “We’re excited to partner with NJBankers on an event that turns every meal purchased into support for our neighbors in need. We encourage everyone to come out, enjoy a meal, and help make a difference.”
