‘Family Fireworks on the Navesink’ returns July 3 to support Riverview Medical Center expansion

The annual “Family Fireworks on the Navesink” celebration is set to return on Thursday, July 3, once again hosted by the DiPiero family at their home along the Navesink River in Red Bank. Beyond the spectacular display, this long-standing community tradition serves a critical purpose: raising essential funds for the renovation and expansion of Riverview Medical Center’s Alton A. Hovnanian Emergency Care Center.

The current expansion project at the Alton A. Hovnanian Emergency Care Center is part of a multi-year effort to meet the growing regional demand for specialized emergency services. Slated for completion in 2028, the project will significantly increase capacity, adding over 40 patient rooms and treatment bays. The redesigned space will also feature dedicated areas for trauma care, advanced diagnostic imaging, and a secure crisis unit.

“We’re proud to help Riverview provide world-class health care while supporting a stunning display of fireworks,” Dan Dirscherl, a trustee of the Riverview Medical Center Foundation, who is participating as one of the event’s first community “Ambassadors,” said.

While the fireworks display—scheduled for approximately 9:15 p.m.—can be enjoyed by the public from locations along the river or by boat near the Oceanic Bridge, the Foundation is expanding its fundraising outreach this year.

In addition to traditional sponsorship opportunities, the Foundation is inviting neighboring residents to become “Ambassadors for Riverview.” By donating and hosting their own small fundraisers during their own July 3 celebrations, community members can directly contribute to the emergency department expansion.

The fundraiser is a vital component of the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation’s broader “Be The Difference” campaign. Launched in 2024, the $1 billion initiative focuses on enhancing patient care delivery, advancing medical research, expanding access to care, and supporting nursing education.

“It’s always a great time to come together to celebrate Riverview Medical Center and raise money to support the critical projects there that truly make a difference,” Dr. Kenneth Sable, president of the Acute Care Hospital Division of Hackensack Meridian Health, said. “This year, we’re especially excited to support the reimagined Alton A. Hovnanian Emergency Care Center, which will play a huge role in the health of our community going forward.”
