Atlantic Health’s board of trustees is adding expertise in philanthropy (Hans Dekker), population health (Dr. Thomas Kloos) and high-stakes dealmaking (Patrick Ramsey), it announced Tuesday.
The Morristown-based health system also announced it is naming Michael Ranger, who has served on the board since 2023, as a new Vice Chair.
Board Chair Laura Ann Kelly applauded the announcement.
“The Atlantic Health Board is delighted to welcome Hans, Tom and Patrick and thrilled that their considerable knowledge and experiences will now benefit patients across the communities we serve,” she said.
CEO Saad Ehtisham agreed.
“In today’s complex and rapidly evolving healthcare environment, good governance calls for diverse leadership perspectives and strong competencies in many different disciplines,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have the support of trustees who are as skilled and experienced as they are dedicated, with broad expertise and strong community ties to advance our mission.”
A look at the new members:
Dekker: He is president of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, which manages more than $1 billion in assets across 1,200 funds. Since joining the foundation in 2003, he has overseen the direction of more than $750 million in social-impact grants covering food security, maternal care, affordable housing and wellness. He previously served as executive vice president of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and chaired the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers. He’s a graduate of Bates College and the University of California, Berkeley.
Kloos: He brings 30 years of clinical and population-health leadership. He chaired the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations’ board in 2020 and previously served as a vice president at Atlantic Health, overseeing care transformation across multiple Medicare Shared Savings Program risk models. As president of the Atlantic Health Accountable Care Organization and, before that, Optimus Healthcare Partners, he built a value-based care program covering 500,000 attributed lives. He earned his MD from the University of Louisville, completed his residency at Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center, and taught at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Ramsey: He chairs Global Mergers & Acquisitions at BofA Securities, where he has advised on more than $1 trillion in transactions. He joined Merrill Lynch in 1995 after working at Kidder, Peabody & Co., and has spent the past decade in successive M&A leadership roles at the firm. He earned an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University.
Ranger, the new Vice Chair, co-founded the private equity firm Diamond Castle Holdings and previously served as CEO of Covanta Holding Corp., where the company’s stock price nearly tripled before its $5.3 billion acquisition by EQT Infrastructure. He sits on the board of directors of Con Edison and is a trustee emeritus of St. Lawrence University.
