The advanced software leverages artificial intelligence to generate a personalized, high-resolution 3D model of a patient’s heart prior to a coronary angioplasty. By offering detailed insights into vessel sizing, plaque distribution, and blood flow patterns, the technology empowers interventional cardiologists to meticulously plan treatments for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) before entering the catheterization laboratory.
Coronary artery disease occurs when plaque buildup narrows or blocks the arteries supplying blood to the heart, potentially leading to chest pain, shortness of breath, or heart attacks. Traditionally, physicians relied primarily on real-time imaging during the actual procedure to map out stenting strategies.
“In the past, interventional cardiologists often gained their most detailed view of a patient’s coronary arteries during the procedure itself,” Dr. Rajiv Tayal, director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Structural Heart Program at The Valley Hospital, said. “Having a more complete picture of a patient’s coronary arteries before the procedure allows us to plan treatment in advance, make decisions, and deliver more personalized care.”
