Sara Pena has spent her career moving between public service, corporate leadership and nonprofit work, with the same throughline running underneath all three: equity, opportunity and investing in the next generation.
That throughline is earning her one of New Jersey’s most storied honors.
Pena, director of external affairs at PSEG, will receive the Roberto Clemente Award at the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development’s 38th Annual Roberto Clemente Gala on Sept. 17.
The award is named for the Hall of Fame outfielder and humanitarian, and it recognizes leaders whose work reflects compassion, selflessness and a deep commitment to community — values PRAHD has built its gala around for nearly four decades.
Pena has been a longtime supporter of PRAHD’s work, including as a mentor in the organization’s Entre Mujeres program.
In announcing the honor, she pointed to organizations like PRAHD as playing a vital role in advancing the kind of community impact she’s chased throughout her career, and she’s inviting her network to join her at the gala to help support the group’s continued work.
“Public–private partnerships are essential to sustaining and empowering nonprofits,” she said. “I’m proud that PSEG continues to invest in organizations like PRAHD that strengthen our communities. Their work lifts up families and opens doors of opportunity, and it’s an honor to support that mission.
“I’m grateful for this recognition and look forward to celebrating with so many incredible leaders, advocates and community partners.”
