Inspira Health has officially opened its newly expanded maternity unit at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, marking a major milestone in the health system’s comprehensive campus growth and its ongoing investment in family-centered care across South Jersey.
The expansion doubles the hospital’s maternity footprint to approximately 36,000 square feet and increases staffed maternity beds from 20 to 38. The upgraded unit is designed to accommodate a seamless patient flow from arrival through labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
“Opening this expanded maternity unit is an important step forward for families across South Jersey and for the future of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill,” Lydia Stockman, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at Inspira Health said. “More families are choosing Inspira to welcome their babies, and this investment gives our teams the space, capacity and flexibility to meet that demand while continuing to provide high-quality care close to home.”
The layout emphasizes patient privacy, clear communication, and comfort for newborns and loved ones alike. Christi Dooley, AVP of Maternal Child Health, noted that the unit matches the trusted standard of care families expect while offering an enhanced environment optimized for modern care models, such as couplet care that keeps mothers and newborns together.
The maternity debut is a key component of Inspira’s broader $257 million campus expansion and renovation project at Mullica Hill. Key elements of the overarching multi-year project include:
- A new 5-story, 150,000-SF tower: Slated to begin patient care in early 2027, housing an additional 32-bed surgical unit, increased intensive care capacity, and specialized neuro-ICU resources developed through a partnership with Cooper University Health Care.
- Bed capacity growth: Raising the hospital’s licensed bed count to 296 alongside a new 24-bed observation unit to streamline emergency department flow.
- Expanded support services: Future phases featuring upgraded clinical education spaces, simulation labs for medical residents, and modernized dining and pharmacy facilities.
