New Jersey residents ready to channel their inner island spirit are in for a treat this week. In celebration of National Hawaiian Shirt Day (Aloha Friday) on Aug. 21, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is inviting guests to show off their best tropical threads in exchange for a complimentary drink.
Anyone who visits the franchise’s Garden State locations—situated at 1825 Route 35 in Wall Township and 14 Lincoln Place in Madison—wearing a Hawaiian shirt will receive one FREE 16-ounce brewed or iced coffee.
Known for its bold island attitude and premium beans sourced directly from the legendary growing regions of Kona, Kauai, and Maui, Bad Ass Coffee aims to give locals a fun excuse to embrace vacation vibes.
“At Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, we’re all about sharing the aloha spirit, and National Hawaiian Shirt Day gives us the perfect excuse to have a little fun with our guests,” said Tyler Bowman, franchise owner of the New Jersey locations. “Whether it’s a vintage aloha shirt, a bold floral print or your favorite vacation look, we encourage everyone to embrace the island vibes, enjoy a great cup of coffee and celebrate with us. It’s a simple way to bring a taste of Hawaii to New Jersey and put a smile on someone’s face.”
Founded in 1989 on the Big Island of Hawaii, the brand takes its name from the hardworking donkeys once used to haul heavy loads of coffee beans down steep mountain trails—dubbed the “bad ass ones” by locals for their reliable, resilient nature. Today, that uncompromising spirit carries over into the company’s artisanal roasts, specialty lattes, cold brews, and food menus featuring a distinct Hawaiian twist.
Both New Jersey cafes are open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Guests visiting for the giveaway are also invited to sign up for the ‘Ohana Rewards loyalty program, which grants new members $5 off and 89 bonus points (Lei) following their first purchase.
