ShopRite Partners In Caring (SRPIC) has officially kicked off its signature annual Cheerios Contest in partnership with General Mills, mobilizing store associates and shoppers across the region to raise critical funds for local hunger-relief organizations.
Running now through Oct. 3, the friendly competition invites ShopRite stores to rally their teams and customers under this year’s “Mission: End Hunger” theme. Stores that raise the highest amounts of money will earn a spot on a limited-edition Cheerios cereal box in March, celebrating their associates’ efforts to combat food insecurity.
Since launching in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has raised nearly $65 million for more than 2,500 local charities, including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
“What makes the Cheerios Contest so special is that it turns a friendly competition among stores into an opportunity to make a lasting impact, bringing together our retail teams, community partners and local leaders to rally around the fight against hunger,” Alexandra Emery, manager of sustainability and corporate social responsibility for ShopRite said. “Our teams embrace the challenge each year with plenty of enthusiasm and team spirit, knowing that their participation helps raise funds for hunger-relief organizations that provide meals and resources to neighbors who need them most.”
Customers can participate by making direct donations at store checkouts through Oct. 3. Additionally, many locations will host “Help Bag Hunger” events throughout September—recognized nationally as Hunger Action Month—featuring local elected officials, community leaders, and first responders volunteering at the registers to raise awareness.
All funds raised directly benefit local organizations working to meet growing food assistance needs in the communities served by ShopRite stores.
