Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis has formed a new practice team focused on providing legal support related to data center projects.
The team, led by Barbara Koonz, acts as lead counsel or as local New Jersey counsel for national and international law firms and developers. It advises developers, operators, investors, lenders and others in the siting, construction and operation of data centers, and assists owners with energy procurement, regulatory requirements and others issues once a facility begins operating.
“Formalizing this work within a dedicated practice reflects both the changing needs of our clients and the firm’s continued evolution,” Koonz said. “Our practice team brings together the firm’s deep New Jersey expertise across land use, environmental, energy, real estate, finance, and tax incentives to help move these complex projects forward.”
New Jersey has more than 80 data centers, with several more planned or under construction, according to South Jersey Climate News. The centers are powering the acceleration of artificial intelligence, but they have raised concerns from residents and state and local officials about their use of land, electricity and water.
