Broadway performer and breast cancer survivor Kara Lindsay is set to inspire audiences as the keynote speaker for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Symposium.
The event, titled “Wickedly Strong and Brave,” will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bridgewater Manor.
Lindsay, recognized nationally as one of the longest-running Glindas in the hit musical Wicked and the original Katherine Plumber in Disney’s Newsies, is a Stage II breast cancer survivor. At the symposium, she will share her personal story of resilience, vulnerability, and hope, underscoring the critical roles that early detection and a strong support community play in navigating life-altering health challenges.
Joining Lindsay at the event will be Dr. Deborah Lue, a breast surgeon with the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group and medical director of the breast cancer program at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center. Dr. Lue will educate attendees on:
- Breast cancer risk factors and warning signs
- Types, stages, diagnosis, and treatment options
- Effective prevention strategies
- The vital importance of routine mammograms
The Steeplechase Cancer Center—operating alongside the Rutgers Cancer Institute, New Jersey’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center—offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. Services range from digital mammography and clinical trials to patient navigation, surgical options, and specialized support such as the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique.
