Inserra Supermarkets Inc. officially opened the doors to the brand-new ShopRite of Edgewater Commons at 481 River Road in Edgewater, stepping into the space previously occupied by Acme.
Local officials joined members of the Inserra family for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday to kick off the grand opening weekend. The 64,000-square-foot supermarket welcomed shoppers with special tasting stations, giveaways, and an appearance by a “Singing Mozzarella Chef.”
While doors are open to ensure uninterrupted grocery access for the community, the location will undergo an extensive, multi-year modernization process.
“We are proud to open our doors to the Edgewater community while renovations continue, ensuring local shoppers continue to have access to a full-service supermarket,” Lawrence Inserra Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets Inc., said. “Over the next two years, we will invest in the store to expand its offerings and create a shopping experience that meets the needs of the Edgewater community.”
Planned upgrades and long-term enhancements include:
- Signature Departments: Features like Patsy’s Butcher Shop (offering custom cuts), a Fresh Bakery Shop, Produce, Seafood, a Sushi Bar, and a full-service Deli.
- Fresh to Table: Convenient grab-and-go, ready-to-cook, and ready-to-heat meal solutions.
- Future Additions: The rollout of Antoinette’s Kitchen—featuring freshly prepared meals, a hot bar, and a soup bar—alongside expanded dairy, frozen, kosher, and produce departments.
- Sustainability: Integration of new, energy-efficient equipment to reduce environmental impact.
Family-owned since 1954 when it was established by Patsy Inserra, Inserra Supermarkets is operated by third- and fourth-generation family members. As members of the Wakefern cooperative, the company operates dozens of stores across New Jersey and New York.
