Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has been selected to participate in an innovative international exchange program, giving students at its Culinary Arts Institute (CAI) the opportunity to study abroad in London, England.
The partnership is part of the United States–United Kingdom Community College and Technical Exchange Program, facilitated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) and the Association of Colleges (AoC).
Program overview and focus
- Transatlantic partnership: HCCC has been paired with London’s Capital City College Group as part of a select cohort of two U.S. and two U.K. community colleges developing the exchange.
- Core curriculum: Participating HCCC students enrolled in the CAI 206-Introduction to Sustainability course for Spring 2027 will examine regional ingredients, menu planning, food and beverage pairings, sustainable agriculture, and the cultural impact of cuisine.
- Exchange timeline: Four students from Capital City College will visit HCCC in November, followed by four HCCC students traveling to London in March.
The initiative is spearheaded by the ACCT Global Workforce Coalition and funded by the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation, serving as a practical model for global collaboration, workforce development, and sustainability in higher education.
“At the heart of the U.S.–U.K. Community College and Technical Exchange Program is collaboration between students and faculty on both sides of the pond,” HCCC Interim President Dr. Lisa Dougherty, said. “This exchange is just a hint to the scope of our many workforce pathways and how they benefit our students.”
