Greater Paulsboro energy companies drive $814 million of economic output, study finds

The industrial and petroleum corridor along the Delaware River in South Jersey produces $814 million in economic output and supports 2,855 jobs, according to a study by the Steve Sweeney Center for Public Policy at Rowan University.

The study, released Tuesday, was commissioned by the Greater Paulsboro Energy Companies, which include Paulsboro Refining Company, CPI Operations, PBF Logistics Products Terminal Paulsboro, ExxonMobil Lubes Plant, Repauno Port & Rail Terminal, Sunoco Property and Energy Transfer Eagle Point Terminal.

“The GPEC companies are the economic anchor of Gloucester County’s port economy, supporting high-paying, stable union jobs and contributing to local property taxes,” said Gloucester County Administrator Steve Sweeney, who chairs the policy center.

The goal of the study is to help elected officials and the public see how these facilities support the local and state economy. Their impact is often overlooked, and “should inspire policymakers to safeguard these essential energy security assets,” according to the economic impact study.

“In these days of international energy supply and price uncertainty, we need an ‘all of the above’ approach more than ever that supports refineries like these that are a critical component of our national economy and to sustain our modern way of life,” Sweeney said.
