HCCC appoints Shawn Bragg as first-ever associate athletics director ahead of inaugural season

As it prepares to tip off its historic first year of intercollegiate sports, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has announced the appointment of Shawn Bragg as the institution’s first-ever Associate Athletics Director.

Reporting to HCCC Director of Athletics Jonathan Sisk, Bragg will help oversee the expansion of the college’s athletic programs and activities, prioritize academic integrity and student-athlete progress, and coordinate support programming. He will also represent the college within regional, state, and national athletic organizations.

Bragg joins HCCC from Saint Michael’s College in Vermont, where he served as Director of Athletics Internal Operations starting in 2024. His extensive background in collegiate athletics and recreation also includes roles as Associate Director of Athletics for Operations and Compliance (and brief Interim Director of Athletics) at St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey, Assistant General Manager for the Student Recreation Center/Operations at Rider University, and clinical exercise physiology and recreation coordination roles within New Jersey healthcare systems.

A graduate of Kean University—where he was a Dean’s List and Lambda Alpha Sigma honors student—Bragg holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and is an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist.

“Shawn has extensive experience in the athletics industry and is well respected in all circles,” Jonathan Sisk, HCCC Director of Athletics, said. “He brings a depth of knowledge of operations that will be invaluable as we grow the office and increase programming.”

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for HCCC as it introduces its new mascot and team name, the Hudson Hornets, entering competition as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 15 Division III.

Following the debut of men’s and women’s basketball this fall, the college plans to introduce men’s and women’s volleyball in Fall 2027, with additional varsity programs slated over the next five years.

The Hudson Hornets’ milestone first home games are scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026, against the Essex County College Wolverines, tipping off at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) at Hudson County High Tech High School in Secaucus.

“All of us at Hudson County Community College join in welcoming Shawn Bragg to our team,” HCCC Interim President Dr. Lisa Dougherty said. “We look forward to working with him and Jonathan as they prepare us for this exciting new chapter in the College’s 50-year history and the advent of our sports programs.”
