The Employers Association of New Jersey will hold a roundtable discussion Thursday morning (as in this morning) at the Morris County Library to discussed proposed new rule changes to the independent contractor test.
These rules, which have been proposed by the N.J. Department of Labor and Workforce Development, could significantly impact how businesses classify independent contractors under the ABC test, the EANJ said.
These rules aim to formalize how the DOL interprets and enforces worker classification, potentially expanding contractor claims for benefits like unemployment insurance, overtime and paid leave.
The state’s regulatory process requires the DOL to carefully weigh the anticipated benefits of any proposed rule against the real-world impacts it may have on all stakeholders large and small.
The EANJ is asking employers to join a roundtable discussion on the subject, saying insights will help inform their response to the DOL.
The public comment period has been extended to Aug. 6, 2025.
The event will be held at:
Morris County Library
30 Hanover Ave,
Whippany
10-11:30 a.m.
