Bojangles to open 35 new restaurants in New Jersey amidst Northeast expansion

Bojangles, the Carolina-born restaurant chain known for its southern-style chicken, biscuits and all-day breakfast, is making a major push into the Northeast. The company recently announced a 20-unit franchise agreement to re-enter the New York City market, but this is just one piece of a larger expansion strategy that will see the brand establish a significant presence in New Jersey as well.

The company has signed an agreement with a franchisee to develop 35 additional locations throughout the Garden State. This move builds on the chain’s recent efforts in the state, which has become a key part of its metropolitan expansion plan. In April 2025, Bojangles opened its first New Jersey location in Piscataway, with plans for at least 10 additional restaurants in the Central Jersey region from that initial franchise group. The new agreement for 35 more locations represents a substantial increase in the brand’s commitment to the Garden State.

This aggressive expansion is part of Bojangles’ broader mission to grow in key metropolitan markets and establish a national footprint. In total, the company plans to bring more than 50 new locations to the New York City and New Jersey areas.

“The East Coast is craving the authentic, Southern charm that Bojangles delivers,” Jose Armario, CEO of Bojangles said. “We’re excited to introduce locals to something new.” Armario noted that the franchise groups behind this expansion bring the necessary industry know-how and operational experience to succeed in a market like New York and New Jersey.

The new franchise agreement for New Jersey demonstrates the brand’s confidence in the market’s potential.

The recent opening in Piscataway was developed by experienced operators who have committed to opening 10 more locations. The new deal for 35 additional units will bring the total number of planned Bojangles restaurants in New Jersey to at least 45 in the near future. This significant investment is a strong indicator of the brand’s belief that New Jersey consumers will embrace its menu.

While Bojangles is well-established in the Southeast with over 45 years of history, this expansion marks a new era of growth. The company is actively seeking franchise partners with strong financial capacity, relevant business experience, and the ability to open multiple locations to help them grow their footprint in new and emerging markets.

The decision to focus on the New York metropolitan area, including New Jersey, is a strategic one, capitalizing on the high foot traffic and dense urban neighborhoods that are ideal for introducing the brand to a new audience. The company hopes to replicate its success from the Southeast and become a new staple for residents across the Garden State.
