The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) announced that the application window for Phase 2 of the Child Care Facilities Improvement Grant will close on Sept. 30. This $5 million program offers grants of up to $20,000 to registered Family Child Care homes (FCCs) to enhance the health, safety, and quality of their learning environments.
The grant is part of the state’s broader effort to support its child care system. According to the NJEDA, the program aims to provide FCCs with the necessary resources to ensure long-term stability and offer a safe and high-quality early learning environment for children. Since its launch in September 2024, the program has already approved over $1 million in funding for dozens of FCCs. This second phase builds on the success of Phase 1, which awarded over $120 million to 600 child care centers.
Eligibility for Phase 2 is limited to registered FCCs that currently care for at least one child receiving support from the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Care Assistance Program. Up to 40 percent of the grant funding is reserved for eligible applicants in Opportunity Zones.
Interested applicants are encouraged to attend a free informational webinar on Sept. 8, at 6:00 p.m. to learn more about the program requirements and application process.
