Lowenstein introduces Data360: A legal-tech way to manage data risk

Firm: Initiative is multidisciplinary model that unites technical and regulatory experts to deliver end-to-end solutions for today’s data-driven global business landscape

Every company knows it needs to do more with its data. Many don’t know how. Lowenstein Sandler is attempting to bridge that gap with the launch of Data360 by its Data Privacy, Security, Safety & Risk Management Group Monday.

Lowenstein officials say Data360 will serve as a multidisciplinary model that unites technical and regulatory experts to deliver end-to-end solutions for today’s data-driven global business landscape.

Practice chair Amy Mushahwar said clients should think of Lowenstein’s privacy and security lawyers as the legal development for their company.

“Data360 is our technology-forward approach to lawyering — built with lawyers who’ve served as CISOs, CISSPs, PCI-QSAs, ethical hackers, developers, and elite attorneys,” she said. “Today’s privacy and security practice demands legal-technical dual threats, alongside former regulators and prosecutors. We partner with you as a deep bench.”

Mushahwar said she knows the concept is needed; she’s lived it.

More than two decades ago, as a technologist, she struggled to find legal counsel fluent in the technical risks she faced. She needed someone who understood computing architecture and data flows, capable of translating compliance into real-world environments and building practical solutions.

At Lowenstein Sandler, she built a team of skilled legal practitioners and technologists who collaborate seamlessly with engineering teams to deliver actionable, business-aligned advice.

Mushahwar’s technical background continues to shape her legal practice.

Breaking down Data 360

Data360 from Lowenstein Sandler offers legal technologists who deliver holistic support across the data lifecycle — from coordinating forensics and managing breach notifications to advising boards and engaging regulators. The legal services include:

· Privacy, security, and AI compliance program development

· Data subject rights (DSR) management

· Breach preparedness, incident response, and crisis management

· Transactional privacy and security due diligence

· Emerging tech counseling and program implementation

· Alternative data (e.g., scraping, dark web)

· Content moderation and child safety

· Litigation and regulatory defense

· Global privacy strategy and international data transfers

“I’ve helped companies avoid missing critical logs during incident response, escalated security non-compliance to General Counsels, and worked with database developers to implement privacy tagging logic — after they said it couldn’t be done.”

By grounding legal advice in technical architecture, Mushahwar said Data360 treats compliance as a strategic asset — not a barrier to growth. This reflects the evolving role of chief privacy and security officers, many of whom now carry “Trust” in their titles. Strategic compliance builds trust, drives competitive advantage and accelerates business momentum, she said.

“Five to ten years ago, data risk rarely derailed deals,” she said. “Today, data drives business.”

Lowenstein partner Kathleen McGee, who co-developed the Data360 talent approach, agreed.

“We enable general counsels to embed privacy, security, and safety controls directly into business operations and product development lifecycles,” she said. “Our Data360-trained lawyers are what I wanted to see as a regulator — professionals who ground themselves in the technology to answer the hard questions.”

Mushahwar said the product matches Lowenstein Sandler’s long-standing commitment to innovation.

“From advising emerging companies and venture capital firms to representing AI businesses and investors, we’ve consistently led at the intersection of legal strategy and technology risk,” she said.
