The Valley Hospital receives national recognition from American Heart Association for stroke care

The Valley Hospital in Paramus has earned two national recognitions from the American Heart Association for its treatment of stroke patients.

These two include:

This award recognizes facilities giving stroke patients appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to improved outcomes and reduced disability.

To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with a clot-busting medication. For the elite level, this was Door-to-needle times within 60 minutes for at least 85 percent of applicable patients.

Valley Health System CEO Robert Brenner praised the dedication to receive the award.

“At The Valley Hospital, we are dedicated to advancing patient care by following the most up-to-date treatment guidelines,” he said. “Our Stroke Center is prepared at a second’s notice to treat complex strokes and offer effective stroke interventions. We are proud to receive this recognition and to help those in the community live longer, healthier lives.”

Each year, program participants qualify for the award by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for stroke patients. In addition to following treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants also educate patients to help them manage their health and recovery at home.
