Vernon-based Hef’s Hut, the bar and grill at The Great Gorge, is turning National Cheeseburger Day into a high-stakes competition with its new 18-Slider Challenge. On Sept. 18, the establishment will not only offer 50% off all cheeseburgers but will also test the limits of even the most dedicated foodies with a challenge that combines a love for burgers with a passion for adventure.
The rules are simple but demanding: participants must eat 18 cheeseburger sliders, including the buns, in a single sitting and in under 30 minutes. This isn’t just a contest of speed; according to The Great Gorge General Manager David Killin, it’s a test of pure appetite and determination.
“These are hefty sliders, so downing all 18, buns and all, in less than 30 minutes is no easy feat,” Killin said. “Appetites and determination are required, the latter of which I believe will be helpful after anyone daring enough gets through to the back nine of the slider challenge!”
For those who can conquer the challenge, the rewards are twofold. The 18-slider meal, which normally costs $90, will be completely free. In addition, the champion will win their choice of a free adventure at The Great Gorge, which includes a round of golf at either the legendary Fazio-designed Golf Club or New Jersey’s only 1Club Park Golf course, or an exhilarating climb at the TreEscape Aerial Adventure Park.
Failure to complete the challenge within the time limit means the participant must pay the full price for the sliders. The terms are strict: the challenge is for one person only, with no sharing, and the full meal must be consumed.
Hef’s Hut has quickly become a local favorite, known for its bold menu, signature cocktails, and scenic views of Vernon Valley. Situated next to the Great Gorge Golf Club, the restaurant is a key part of the resort’s diverse lineup of experiences, which caters to both golfers and outdoor adventure enthusiasts.
The 18-Slider Challenge offers a unique way for the Vernon community and visitors to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day. It’s a bold invitation to put one’s appetite to the ultimate test and, for the victors, to trade in a full stomach for a new, unforgettable experience in the mountains of northern New Jersey.
