Berkeley College Director Rivera named 2026 board president of NNJ-ATD

The Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Association for Talent Development (NNJ-ATD) has appointed Maria Rivera as its 2026 board president. Rivera, who currently serves as the Director of Continuing Education at Berkeley College, brings over a decade of expertise in higher education and professional development to the leadership role.

The transition was finalized during a recent leadership meeting where outgoing President Kristen Illes (Founder of 3D Leadership Solutions) handed over the gavel. The chapter also announced Joseph Alvarez (Columbia Bank) as president-elect, slated to take the helm in 2027.

As board president, Rivera is tasked with steering the chapter’s strategic vision and ensuring the delivery of high-value networking and educational resources to professionals across the region. Her term comes at a pivotal time as workplace learning increasingly intersects with emerging technologies.

“Maria brings exceptional talent development expertise and a deep commitment to our Chapter’s mission of advancing learning and performance in the workplace,” Illes said. “I am confident that under her leadership, our Chapter will continue to grow and provide outstanding value.”

Rivera’s goals for the 2026 term include:

  • Member Value: Expanding the chapter’s portfolio of educational programs and resources.

A resident of Rockaway, Rivera has been a prominent figure in the state’s professional education landscape. At Berkeley College, she leads initiatives for professionals seeking career advancement through flexible certificate programs and stackable credentials.

Professional Background & Credentials:

  • Academic Leadership: Over 10 years in higher education, management, and technology training.

  • Education: M.A. in Adult Education and Training (University of Phoenix); B.A. from Lehman College.

  • Specialized Certifications: Certified Scrum Master (CSM®), Data Visualization (NYU SPS), and Certified NYS/NJ Real Estate Instructor.

The NNJ-ATD is a regional branch of the international Association for Talent Development, the world’s largest organization of its kind with members in over 100 countries. The chapter serves as a hub for practitioners in training, instructional design, and human resources.
