Parsippany-based B&G Foods on Monday announced it has reached an agreement to sell the Green Giant and Le Sieur frozen and shelf-stable vegetable product lines in Canada to Nortera Foods. The sale, which is subject to regulatory approval in Canada, is expected to close between the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
This divestiture marks another move in B&G Foods’ strategic effort to streamline its portfolio and reduce long-term debt. The company previously sold the U.S. shelf-stable components of Green Giant and Le Sueur in 2023 and 2025, respectively, and is still evaluating a possible divestiture of its Green Giant U.S. frozen vegetable product line.
“Our decision to sell the Green Giant and Le Sieur brands in Canada is another milestone in our ongoing effort to divest brands and product lines that are non-core to B&G Foods’ long-term strategy, sharpen our focus and reduce long-term debt,” Casey Keller, president and chief executive officer of B&G Foods said.
Keller expressed confidence in the buyer, noting that Nortera Foods has long been the primary co-manufacturer for the brand in Canada, making them “well-positioned to drive continued success for Green Giant in Canada.”
B&G Foods stated that the proceeds from the sale will be used for general corporate purposes, including the repayment of long-term debt, the purchase of assets, and covering taxes and expenses related to the transaction.
The specific financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Barclays Capital Inc. and Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. acted as financial advisors to B&G Foods.
