How Table to Table is fighting food insecurity during World Cup — and how you can help

Saddle Brook-based nonprofit is collecting surplus food at festivals, such as Flag Cities

If you’re planning an event to celebrate the World Cup, make sure you have plenty of food. And if you have plenty of food left over, make sure you remember Table to Table, North Jersey’s leading food-rescue network.

Based in Saddle Brook, Table to Table turns surplus meals into immediate help for hungry neighbors. That’s the basis of its Kick Hunger Out of New Jersey Tour.

In addition to the daily food rescue operations, the Table to Table “Tour Van” has been on the road throughout the 39-day tournament — rescuing surplus food from the Goya Presents Flag Cities fan festivals, as well as local watch parties and special events, and delivering directly to our neighbors in need.

Jim Kirkos, the CEO of the Meadowlands Chamber and one of the creators of the Flag Cities festival, said his group is eager to support the fine work that Table to Table does.

Want to help, here’s how you can:

Donate food: Planning a local event, festival, or watch party at a restaurant or public venue? Connect with Table to Table to donate surplus food (must be prepared in a commercial kitchen).

Table to Table will pick it up at the end of your event and safely deliver it directly to one of our local community partners. They ask that you give 24 hours’ notice.

Support the tour: Every gift fuels the food rescue Tour Van, supports Table to Table’s staff, volunteers and puts food on the tables of families who need it most.

Volunteer: Table to Table is seeking volunteers to help staff tables at various events, as well as help with food rescues and deliveries.
