In a heartwarming event that brought smiles and a sense of community to patients, former Allure Magazine beauty editor Lindsay Colameo Peragallo surprised over 75 cancer patients at Hackensack Meridian John Theurer Cancer Center with luxury gift bags valued at approximately $400 each.
The surprise delivery, made on Aug. 18, was organized through Peragallo’s nonprofit organization, Beauty Holiday Inc., which aims to transform product surplus into empowering self-care for women and families facing hardship. The gift bags were filled with premium products from top brands like Rare Beauty, Kendra Scott, and Fabletics, accompanied by handwritten notes to offer comfort and dignity to those in the midst of a difficult health journey.
This initiative holds a special meaning for Peragallo, as her father, Dr. Kenneth Colameo, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, is a cancer survivor who was treated at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC). The event was a community effort, with volunteers from the Cedar Lakes community helping to pack the gifts, creating “tangible reminders that no one walks their journey alone.”
The impact of the surprise was immediate and visible in the infusion suites at the JTCC. Patients undergoing treatment were visibly delighted, their faces lighting up as they received the gifts.
“For a few precious moments, the clinical reality of treatment faded, replaced by a wave of warmth and community support,” according to a statement from the center.
This heartfelt project aligns perfectly with the philosophy of the JTCC, New Jersey’s #1 cancer center, which is renowned for providing both world-class medical care and support for a patient’s emotional well-being. The center’s “Surprise and Delight Team” often collaborates with community partners like Beauty Holiday to ensure patients receive gestures of self-care that remind them they are cared for as a whole person.
Since its founding, Beauty Holiday has received over $500,000 worth of donated products, directly impacting the lives of more than 1,300 women and families facing various hardships, from illness to crisis.
