Centenary University is set to host its second annual Mane Event on Sept. 12, welcoming families, equestrians, and the general public for a day of education, entertainment, and fundraising.
Running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Centenary University Equestrian Center in Long Valley, the event is organized by the University’s Equine Studies and Animal Health Department. Proceeds from this year’s gathering will directly fund pasture improvements for the ongoing care of the university’s equine herd.
The inaugural Mane Event last year drew roughly 400 guests and raised $37,000, which was used to purchase a veterinary shockwave therapy machine for the horses. Kelly Munz, Dean of the Department of Equine Studies and Animal Health, noted the strong community backing that helped launch the tradition.
“Last year’s Mane Event demonstrated the tremendous enthusiasm that exists for Centenary University’s equine programs and the horses at the heart of our students’ education,” Munz said. “We look forward to building on last year’s momentum with more learning, family activities, and stronger community connections to help raise funds that will directly benefit our herd.”
Returning favorites for the 2026 expo include all-day equine lectures, a variety of equestrian demonstrations, the Parade of the Hounds, a horseless horse show, a tricky tray, children’s crafts, face painting, bingo, shopping, and an array of food and beer trucks. Event sponsor NEOGEN is also scheduled to present a specialized lecture on botulism and its impact on equine health.
Organizers have added several new attractions to this year’s lineup, including live question-and-answer panels, a special appearance by the New Jersey mounted police, a complimentary Breyer model horse painting station, horseless barrel racing, a farrier exhibit, a 50/50 raffle, family games, and a faculty and staff dunk tank. The events are tailored for all ages and require no prior equestrian experience.
Tickets are available for purchase both in advance and at the door. Advance ticketing and early registration for specialized competitions like the horseless horse show and horseless barrel racing can be completed online through the Centenary Mane Event Registration Portal. Interested individuals and organizations can also find information regarding sponsorships, donations, and vendor opportunities through the university’s website.
A diverse selection of local vendors will be on-site. Attendees can also choose from food and beverage options provided by Czig Meister Brewing Company, Forno’s on Wheels, Rainbow Snow, and Shugar Shack Soul Food.
