Hackensack-based LiveU technology powers Eden Project’s global live learning initiative for students

Educational broadcasting has taken a massive leap forward, thanks to a powerful partnership between the UK’s renowned environmental charity Eden Project and Hackensack-based IP-video pioneer LiveU.

Leveraging LiveU’s advanced broadcast ecosystem, the Eden Project has transformed its curriculum-aligned educational outreach, scaling its interactive, livestreamed nature programs from a basic mobile phone setup to a professional, broadcast-grade production reaching students around the globe.

Throughout 2025, the Eden Project’s education team—led by educators Robbie Kirkman and Thomas Last—cultivated an impressive audience of more than 75,000 youngsters streaming live sessions from the site’s famous tropical rainforest biome. However, relying on mobile phones and standard on-site Wi-Fi presented significant connectivity bottlenecks. The team needed a robust, cost-effective solution that could turn the entire sprawling horticultural attraction into a reliable, high-definition floating classroom.

Marking its 25th anniversary year in 2026, the organization secured the necessary funding to pilot LiveU technology. Following a successful proof of concept utilizing the LU900Q intelligent production unit—powered by LiveU IQ (LIQ™) AI-driven connectivity—the team achieved the seamless, high-performance video transmission needed to broadcast directly from complex environments like the biomes and rainforest.

“Prior to this, I wasn’t anywhere near confident we could deliver the consistency and quality we needed. We’ve had a lot of support from the LiveU team to get this off the ground,” said Kirkman.

Operating from Hackensack, N.J., LiveU’s modular IP-video ecosystem enabled the Eden Project to combine hardware reliability with LiveU Studio, a cloud-based production platform that allows presenters to manage the broadcast stream directly while on camera.

To maintain smooth coordination across the vast site, the team deployed LiveU Audio Connect, ensuring real-time communication between Kirkman on-site and Last producing in the cloud.

This technological upgrade has dramatically broadened the program’s reach. Livestreamed twice a month to a password-protected portal, the sessions feature real-time student polling and interactive Q&A segments. Beyond serving classrooms across the UK, the program has successfully broadcasted to international student groups as far away as Australia, Brazil, and South Korea.

Looking ahead, the Eden Project is already eyeing future expansions, including digital linkages between its Cornwall headquarters and the upcoming Eden Project Morecambe site scheduled to open in late 2028, paving the way for multi-site joint educational projects.

“We are really excited that our expanding LiveU EcoSystem is being adopted for such an important and inspirational project. This installation shows you don’t necessarily need a broadcast background to tell a powerful story, you just need the right tools,” Matthew Stringer, Sales Director UK for LiveU, said.

Headquartered in Hackensack, LiveU is the leader in live IP-video solutions, with over 5,000 customers across more than 150 countries. Powered by its low-latency LRT™ protocol and AI-driven LiveU IQ technology, the company empowers organizations ranging from news broadcasters to public safety agencies and educational enterprises to deliver reliable, high-quality live video at scale.
