South Jersey’s premier health network is getting another gold star for its ticker-tackling expertise. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has officially awarded Cooper University Hospital prestigious Electrophysiology (EP) Accreditation, cementing the institution’s status as a top-tier destination for complex heart care.
Winning this accreditation isn’t just a matter of filling out paperwork. The honor follows a grueling onsite evaluation checking how well Cooper’s cardiac care teams assess, diagnose, and treat patients walking into their electrophysiology labs—the specialized units handling dangerous heart rhythms (arrhythmias) with advanced interventions like cardiac ablations, pacemakers, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
To secure the badge, Cooper had to survive an intense audit process featuring gap analyses, care variation reviews, ongoing performance tracking, and strict criteria focused on safety, efficiency, and patient education.
“We are incredibly proud to receive ACC Electrophysiology Accreditation, as it reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standard of care for patients with complex heart rhythm disorders,” Dr. Andrea Russo, director of Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Services, and a provider with Cooper and Inspira Cardiac Care, said.
This latest accolade highlights the explosive growth and clinical muscle of Cooper and Inspira Cardiac Care—the powerhouse partnership combining Cooper University Health Care and Inspira Health to form South Jersey’s biggest integrated cardiac program.
Dr. Steven Deitelzweig, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board, praised the hospital’s local impact: “Cooper has shown a strong commitment to delivering outstanding heart care to the South Jersey community,” he said.
