Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a high-visibility “Pink Out” event to address a concerning health trend: while overall breast cancer death rates have dropped significantly, diagnoses are rising by about 1% annually, with the sharpest increases occurring in women under 50.
The event, scheduled for Oct. 1, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 7600 River Road, aims to underscore the critical importance of early detection, which boasts a greater than 99% survival rate when cancer is caught at a localized stage. Medical professionals are using the gathering to remind local women to utilize advanced screening technologies, aligning with national guidelines recommending regular screenings starting at age 40.

- The Face of the Fight: Local survivor Stephanie Albarracin will share her powerful story. Diagnosed at age 38 in March 2025 with no family history of the disease, Albarracin discovered her cancer after a hospital visit prompted by sharp chest pains. Following immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and 25 rounds of radiation, she is now cancer-free (No Evidence of Disease) and celebrating her 39th year.
- A “Sea of Pink”: The hospital grounds will transform with striking visual displays, pink treats, and community supporters rallying for the cause.
- Interactive Self-Check Demos: Attendees can learn how to properly perform self-examinations using life-size educational models.
- Cutting-Edge Technology: Experts will showcase how artificial intelligence and advanced imaging are enhancing early detection capabilities.
