Johnson & Johnson announced a major investment of more than $1 billion to significantly scale its Vision operations in Jacksonville, Florida. The capital commitment is set to enhance domestic manufacturing, packaging, and distribution capabilities, bolstering the company’s ability to supply its market-leading ACUVUE® contact lenses to more than 40 million patients globally.
The investment features the construction of a new, state-of-the-art distribution facility alongside the integration of advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies. These upgrades are designed to streamline operations and strengthen the resilience of the company’s U.S. supply chain. Construction is already underway, with the project expected to be fully operational by 2028.
“This investment reinforces our long-standing conviction that advanced manufacturing in the United States is essential to delivering innovative, high-quality healthcare solutions to patients at home and around the world,” Joaquin Duato, chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson said. “By further strengthening our Vision operations in Jacksonville with next-generation capabilities, we are enhancing the resilience of our U.S. supply chain.”
This project is a key component of Johnson & Johnson’s broader, previously announced $55 billion commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing, research and development, and technology through early 2029.
For the Jacksonville region, the investment underscores a legacy that dates back to 1981. Johnson & Johnson currently supports 3,500 employees in the area and contributes approximately $6 billion annually to the Florida economy. Local and state leaders have lauded the announcement as a testament to the region’s growing reputation in the life sciences and advanced manufacturing sectors.
“Jacksonville continues to lead in advanced manufacturing and life sciences innovation,” Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan said. “This expansion strengthens our high-tech footprint while creating quality jobs and long-term opportunities for our community.”
Johnson & Johnson’s Jacksonville operations currently manufacture more than 1.7 billion ACUVUE® contact lenses annually. With over 1.5 million square feet of facilities dedicated to manufacturing, research, and distribution in the area, the site serves as the anchor of the company’s global vision care production.
