Legend Biotech names Alan Bash interim CEO as Ying Huang steps down

Bridgewater-based Legend Biotech Corporation, a leader in cell therapy, on Monday announced a major leadership transition. Dr. Ying Huang has stepped down from his positions as chief executive officer and member of the board of directors, effective July 24.

To ensure continuity, the company’s Board appointed Alan Bash, currently serving as president of the CARVYKTI Business Unit, as interim chief executive officer. The board has also initiated a comprehensive global search process to identify and appoint a permanent successor.

Huang will remain with the company as an advisor through the end of August to support a smooth transition of responsibilities. According to company filings, his departure was not the result of any disagreement regarding operations, policies, financial statements, or internal controls.

Reflecting on his seven-year tenure, Huang expressed gratitude for his time leading the organization:

“It has been a privilege to lead Legend Biotech and to work alongside such a talented and committed team… Together, we have helped advance cell therapy in meaningful ways and built a strong foundation for the company’s future. Our priorities are clear, our strategy is unchanged, and we are focused on execution.”

Frank Zhang, chairman of the board of Legend Biotech, thanked Huang for his instrumental contributions.

During his tenure, Legend Biotech advanced from a pioneering cell therapy company into a global leader with a strong commercial foundation, a differentiated innovation platform, and a clear commitment to patients,” Zhang said.

Stepping into the interim role, Bash emphasized a steady-hand approach to the company’s immediate commercial and clinical objectives.

“My immediate focus will be on ensuring continuity across the business, maintaining strong execution, and supporting our teams as we continue advancing our commercial, clinical, and operational priorities,” Bash said. “We remain committed to bringing innovative cell therapies to more patients around the world.”

Headquartered in Bridgewater, Legend Biotech stands at the forefront of the CAR-T cell therapy revolution. The company continues to scale its operations globally, anchored by its flagship product, CARVYKTI®, developed and commercialized in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson for the treatment of multiple myeloma.
