Major expansion proposed at The Valley Hospital to meet record patient demand

Valley Health System has officially unveiled conceptual plans to expand The Valley Hospital in Paramus, citing record-breaking patient volume since the facility’s relocation to the area in 2024.

The proposal was presented to the Paramus Planning Board on July 16, outlining a significant growth initiative that includes a new patient care wing and an additional parking structure. If approved, the project would add approximately 100 licensed beds to the hospital, aiming to accommodate the rising need for high-quality medical services in northern New Jersey and southern New York.

The hospital, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, has experienced consistent increases in demand. According to 2025 performance data, the facility hit historic highs in several key areas:

  • Births: 4,459 babies delivered, representing a 14.2% increase since 2024.
  • Admissions: 31,991 total hospital admissions, up 6.1% over the previous year.
  • Emergency Care: 81,664 emergency department visits, a 4.3% increase.

“The continued growth in patient demand at Valley reflects the trust our communities place in us and reinforces the need to plan thoughtfully for the future,” Dr. Robert Brenner, president and CEO of Valley Health System said.

The proposed expansion features a dedicated specialty inpatient pavilion, designed to house high-demand clinical services in a state-of-the-art environment. Valley Health System emphasized that the new wing is being designed to integrate seamlessly into the current architecture of the Paramus campus, with a primary focus on enhancing the overall patient experience.

“For 75 years, The Valley Hospital has served the community with a mission to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare. This mission remains unchanged,” Brenner added. “The concepts presented to the Paramus Planning Board act upon this mission, ensuring that we can continue to accommodate future patient demand.”

While the expansion project is a significant step forward for the independent health system, it remains in the early planning stages. The development is contingent upon further design work, municipal review, and necessary regulatory approvals.

Valley Health System has committed to maintaining transparent communication with local officials and community stakeholders throughout the process. Pending all required authorizations, the health system anticipates that construction could begin in 2027.
